How Does Toothpaste Work?

Tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) in toothpaste removes calcium and magnesium from the saliva so they can't form tartar on your teeth. Some toothpastes contain potassium nitrate to build protection against the pain of sensitive teeth. Baking soda adds foam and scouring ability and can fight acid-loving bacteria.

Peroxide toothpastes not only lighten the teeth but also kill germs. Finally, sweeteners and flavorings are added to mask the taste so that you'll use it. Call Ross A. Hildebrand, D.D.S at (855) 733-0337 and we’ll be happy to recommend a toothpaste that’s right for you.

Bad Breath Can Be a Sign of Dental Problems

While bad breath might be a symptom of some other disorder, it most likely stems from dental decay and periodontitis. It's more than just socially awkward - it's a serious threat to your oral health. Periodontitis is a disease affecting gums and bone that support the teeth, and it is caused by inadequate brushing and flossing.

If you’re worried about bad breath, call us today at (855) 733-0337 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hildebrand. If he finds gum disease and/or dental decay, it can be treated readily. There's no need to live with bad breath, and no reason to neglect your dental health.

Dental Decay & Sealants

Dr. Hildebrand will tell you that regular brushing and flossing lowers the chance of your children developing cavities. However, sometimes good habits alone aren't enough. The most decay-prone areas of teeth are the grooves and depressions on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These vulnerable areas require further preventive care. To protect kids' teeth from decay, a plastic-like coating called a sealant should be painted on the chewing surfaces of all the back teeth.

It's a simple process that's extremely effective: studies have shown that sealants can reduce tooth decay by as much as 90% to 100%. Please call Ross A. Hildebrand, D.D.S at (855) 733-0337 with any questions you may have about the benefits of using a sealant in preventing dental decay.
